> Galaxiesは，コーパス（全文データベース）に含まれるドキュメント間に，キーワード解析によって近接度の関係をもたせ，2次元空間の上の離散点群として選択的に見せることに成功している．文書の階層的構造も反映し，ドキュメント単位よりも細かな粒度ーたとえば，章，節，文ーの関係を，あたかも明るさの異なる星に目をこらしていくかのように，段階的に表示することが可能である．
　一方ThemeScapesは，ハイトフィールドによる文脈空間の疑似3次元化によってGalaxiesを連続的に可視化し，候補ドキュメントの絞り込みの効率化を図り，ビデオセグメント等の対応するマルチメディアコンテンツへの多段階的接近法を提供している．特にThemeScapesは，従来の地形の可視化（terrain visualization）の応用であり，たとえば，ピークや尾根，谷といった地形学的メタファによって，コンテクストの構造を直観的に理解させている．
